History
Didsbury was built by wealthy merchants in the 1800's and a number of large houses and buildings remain with some of the highest priced houses in the city.
With its many historical structures, as well as its more contemporary buildings, Didsbury is where old meets new in a wonderful mix of traditional values.
Historically, the land that comprises Parrswood was the estate of many families including the Farringtons, but was bought by Manchester City Council in 1926, to enable the A34 (Kingsway) to be built. The house - Parrswood House - survives as a Grade I* listed building, and lies within the grounds of the modern Parrswood High School Campus and the Parrswood Rural Studies Centre which is part of the school Campus
Present day
Parrswood is home to Parrswood High School and Parrswood Entertainment Centre. Parrswood House, now the Music Department of the school, and the Parrswood Rural Studies Centre remain, but the land on which the old Parrswood High School stood was leased to the company who built the Entertainment Centre who, in exchange, built the new premises for the £12 million High School at no cost to the local authority. The Parrswood Entertainment Complex is a short stroll from the Parrswood Campus.
Facilities within the Parrswood Entertainment Complex include:
